National Tree Day 2022

Sunday 31 July 2022

Each year Planet Ark encourages Australians to contribute to a healthier planet by going out into Nature and planting native trees. This will help nurture, protect and increase the biodiversity of our amazing flora and fauna and also contribute to a healthier planet.

On 31 July 2022 BFS Landcare and the Natural Resources team from Golden Plains Shire planted 500 grasses, shrubs and trees in the western section of Red Gum Reserve on Blackall Road. This reserve contains some ancient and very beautiful River Red Gums that nurture all kinds of life.

It was heartening to see a mix of generations – grandparents, parents and small children – from the local area and further afield all keenly planting and guarding. We guard plants so the seedling is protected from weeds and predators until it grows above the guard and is robust enough to survive on its own.

After a good morning’s work, BFS Landcare volunteers supplied a barbecue lunch which enabled us to get to know some of the new families in the district.
