Nest Box Workshop in the Batesford Hall

Nest Box Workshop

Supporting Local Wildlife

This workshop highlighted the importance of supporting local wildlife habitats threatened by invasive species and habitat destruction. Twenty-four participants from the local area and beyond took part.

Held at Batesford Hall, the event was led by Bronwyn Merrett, Geelong Landcare Facilitator, with assistance from BFS Landcare members and funded by a Community Grant from the Shire of Golden Plains. Bronwyn provided insights into the theory and practice of nest box construction and installation.

In addition, guest speaker Grant Baverstock, a bat expert, educated attendees about bat species and their crucial roles as pollinators (Grey Headed Flying Foxes) and insect controllers (micro bats).he roles of different bat species, including their contributions to pollination and insect control.

Participants then rolled up their sleeves and assembled parrot, pardalote, or micro-bat nest boxes using pre-cut kits prepared by Bronwyn's husband.

The workshop was a resounding success, with enthusiastic feedback from attendees keen on supporting local wildlife. Plans are underway for a follow-up event in 2024, as this community endeavour aims to make a lasting impact on preserving the area's natural inhabitants.
