River Detectives
‘River Detectives’
2022 Schools Program
BFS Landcare has a commitment to education and works with local schools on programs to educate students about caring for the environment.
We run a Schools Program with Covenant College. Each Thursday morning BFS volunteers, with the assistance of Dale Smithyman (Shire of Golden Plains) and Kate Constance (City of Greater Geelong), meet Year 9 students for walks, talks and on ground work in our Nature reserves. The students learn how to contribute to their community and a healthier environment.
As part of the ‘River Detectives’ program students are measuring water quality and also conducting a water bug search of the Moorabool River. These are two ways of determining the health of the river.
Training and testing kits are provided by the Corangamite Catchment Management Authority.
